Pottery Art and Creative Classes at the Clay Half

We have a range of classes scheduled on a weekly and monthly basis at the Clay Half.

If the available scheduled classes aren't quite what you are looking for, then private classes may be for you. Throughout the year there are a range of visiting artists running workshops, so if you fancy trying specialist ceramic workshops, drawing and painting classes, lino printing, jewellery making, wreath making, Japanese brush work, wooden spoon carving and more have a look and see what is currently scheduled...

Classes

Scheduled Classes and Workshops at the Clay Half are all bookable online, link above. The dates and listings are frequently updated, so please check regularly for the latest information, there is a summary of what we offer below.

If you can't find a class that suits, please get in touch and let us know what you're after as private classes are available. If you'd like to run a class contact us, we'd love to hear what you do and could add to the variety of creative classes on offer at the Clay Half.

Scheduled Classes

We offer weekly pottery classes, including :

  • blocks of 4 pottery classes over 4 weeks for beginners in both hand-building and wheel throwing, taught by Irene Hughes or Sasha Mannin,

  • follow-on intermediate level pottery, you can book these classes individually to suit your availability. You are encouraged to bring your own ideas to these classes where you will be assisted and taught new techniques by Irene Hughes or Sasha Mannin,

  • Drawing & Painting classes for all levels with Kirsten Ritchie Walker DA.

There are also monthly classes in :

  • Adult and Child pottery - spend some time together away from the usual distractions.

  • Glazing Pottery Sessions - great chance to glaze pots from one-off taster sessions or just catching up on glazing work from weekly classes.

Various local artists run workshops throughout the year on Lino Printing, Jewellery Making, Japanese Brush-work, Wooden Spoon Carving and Drypoint Printing etc.

Classes are usually for a maximum of 6 - 8 people, for details see the booking page.

If a class is fully booked, please add your name to the waiting list.

It is at the discretion of the tutor as to whether a class with 3 students or less will run.  You will be contacted directly should it be cancelled or rescheduled, the Clay Half cancellation policy is set out below.

Cancellation Policy

In the event that you are unable to attend a booked class, please contact us as soon as possible by telephoning 01674 676121 or emailing theclayhalf@gmail.com.​

  • Cancellations up to 14 days before a class will receive a full refund less £5 admin fee.

  • Cancellations between 14 - 7 days before a class will receive a 50% refund less £5 admin fee.

  • Cancellations made less than 7 days before a class will not be entitled to a refund.

  • Transfer of booking to another class will be permitted at no cost subject to cancelled booking being filled.
